Art Support

Art Support is hand drawn, surrealist animation from 1994 by the 54 year old Dutch artist Lars Nørgård featuring a well executed sound track composed by Vagn E. Olsson.

The ultra fast pacing in the film makes for some really compelling viewing, with every occurrence moving the story on to another subject (which is not dissimilar to Blu’s recent animations). Unpredictable and brilliant:

Good people, good poster, good music, good times! Promo downloads over on the Pelski Blog, and a nice interview with Midland.

Francis Bacon

At the risk of posting two non-current (and incredably self indulgent) video posts in quick succession, Here is a little gem taken from a 1985 documentary based on the life and works of Francis Bacon.

In this interview clip we get an interesting in-site into Bacon’s take on Life, Death and Gambling:

Picasso

Despite passing away 20 years before the invention of the world wide web, you may be surprised to find that there are a good number of Picasso videos currently floating around youtube. My current favorite is a live painting clip taken from the Paul Haesaert documentary “Visit To Picasso” which uses footage of the artist painting on glass.

Once you get over how strange it is to see a the artist in action, I hope you’ll find the film as beautiful and mesmerizing as i did. Enjoy:

Swim

Loads of remixes of Carbiou’s incredible album swim are to be released on the first of next month. Nothing will beat the originals, but nevertheless these are tip top.

Paradise

Al Murphy has just released a new print on POW. His idea of paradise would be sitting in a pub with Neil Young whilst Jenny Agutter pulls pints of real ale. What’s yours?

TSF

‘Trans Stratford Flux’ is a film I produced in collaboration with Jack Hardy, Louisa Preece and Jasmine Eastwood. Our focus was the contrast between static and dynamic elements in an urban environment. It is a poetic exploration into the changing intensities of speeds and sounds in Stratford’s Olympic edge. Its aim: to highlight the areas latent character.

Once

Midland has been producing a number of aural pleasantries of late, and this mix of Lone’s new single is no exception. A simple smile provoking, body moving, warm wonder.

Minimal Wave

I got hotly tipped in the direction of Minimal Wave last night. A collection of rare and often unreleased tracks from the 70s and 80s DIY Pop synth era. Veronica Vasicka, the founder has compiled a taster FACT MIX

Here is my favourite off the mix, a fresh sounding early 80s banger. WET – That’s the game (instrumental 1983)

Battle

The recently released Mum Decent E.P by Mumdance features three stomping new tracks. This bonus garage cover from 2000 has a similar structure and sounds to the original, but has been polished for todays dancefloor.

Turbo

TRRBO is Tim Turbo‘s side project, in which he produces deeper tracks than his standard tropical bass fuelled house. This one’s a steady rhythmic thumper with vocal tension.

Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ – I Put A Spell On You (TRRBO Remix) [320]

Lt

After some time since the songs original appearance a video has been produced to accompany it’s forthcoming single release, which will later feature on a debut album. Slow, dark and magical!

Don’t Forget

Here’s two awesome new videos from Mad Decent. First up is Ben Read’s fruity offering for Mumdance’s latest track, Don’t Forget Me Now (Feat. Esser):

Next we have everyone’s favorite DJ duo, Major Lazer with their remix of Cajmere “Percolator”.  A  real visual treat:

Bombay

Here is a little masterpiece by El Guicho. It may take a couple of watches before you actually listen to the song, but the video is awesome.

It reminds me of an old outer space documentary meets an Alejandro Jodorowsky film. Funkydoodledoo.

Chill

Crazy homemade video from Laid Back for their new track ‘Cocaine Cool’.. “is more than music, words and visuals.. it’s a way of thinking, a way of living.”

Banksy Vs Fox

With two and a half million hits on Youtube and counting, I’m betting there’s a good chance that alot of our readers have already seen Banksy’s controversial intro to Sundays episode of The Simpsons.

Following reports that 20th Century Fox have begun to outsource some of it’s animation in Asia, the artist intelligently high lights some of the issues faced by the work force on the continent.  Featuring shocking imagery of  appalling working conditions and the use of child labour (153 million children under the age of 18 are predicted to be working in Asia), the sequence has hit a nerve with show owners Fox who have  now begun to pull the intro videos from youtube.

So for those of you who haven’t seen it…

Hitcher

Marc Houle‘s latest LP ‘Drift’ (Minus) features Hitcher Man. Organic drums and a synthesised pitch shifting pattern provides high melodic tones or subsonic bass vibrations.

Zimoun

Sound sculptures and installations by Zimoun. Playful, provocative, phenomenal!

Basic

With only a handful of previous releases, Bostro Pesopeo is relatively unknown. His latest EP Anantes on Permanent Vacation is a two track treat with accompanied remixes. Basic follows by name in arrangement, patient synthesized simplicity with a wholesome hypnotic end.

Blake

James Blake’s productions, however diverse, retain a clear definition of character and style. This is my favourite pick from his recent Klavierwerke Ep. Pianos and softly cut vocals resonate with white noise giving this one some real emotional strength.

Musique

Simple yet captivating animated gif video for Yelle‘s La Musique by WE ARE FROM L.A. with remixes by Myd, Tepr, Lorenz Rhode and Discodeine.

Kudos

A simple EP has been released by Top Billin who quote “we ain’t all about crazy bangers”. Fex Fellini arranges a variety of catchy samples with cleanly constructed house.

Red

Bumping, shuffling and swinging bass and beats from Moment Musik and their new EP ‘Seemannsgarn‘ on Riot Riot Records. Fancy a swim?

Sun/Sun

A funky, jumpy but nicely eerie number from Copenhagen techhouse duo Kenton Slash Demon. Thumping synths, and sparse vocals make for easy listening or easy dancing. Depending on the mood! Another amazing introduction thanks to Motel de Moka.
