Greymatter gets the visual treatment again with a new video for ‘Give It To Me Slow’ by Colour Club. Animated black & white wonders of retro bitmap graphics with some modern three dimensional twists. Previously John Malcolm Moore directed/produced and animated the video for ‘Tesla’. A similar neutral aesthetic, but with projections captured on film. Two truly visual treats!
Mariah Robertson
The Baltic Center in Newcastle is hosting the first UK exhibition by New York based artist Mariah Robertson.
The stunning works on display have been created by manipulating large scale photographic material, painting on the pieces in her darkroom by dripping chemicals and exposing various objects onto the papers surface.
Although some pieces have been roughly cut and framed on the gallery walls, the vast majority of the work on show has been displayed as a complete single structure made up of hundreds of singular images which hangs from the ceiling, unravelling it’s way across the gallery space like a large film strip.
What stricks most about Mariahs work is how organic the images seem dispite the very apparent man-made process of there creation. Using a selected mix of materials and colour, Palm leaves exposed in green and yellow give the impression of lush tropical environments, isometric shapes in brown and red from rocky landscapes and full-size male nudes form ghostly figures, trapped inside the image and pressed up against the surface of the work.

Mariah’s exhibition will run until the 30th of October at the Baltic Centre, Newcastle. For more information you can visit the galleries official website Here
Half The Air
As regular readers know myself and Mush recently graduated from University. This short time between education and employment has enabled us to take a bit of time out to travel and try new things. With Mush jetting off to Oslo, I found myself touring the country from Cornwall to Scotland.
One of the first sights I saw on my trip was the Turner prize-winner Martin Creed’s installation at the Tate St Ives entitled Half The Air In A Given Space, this playful piece saw the Tate’s sea-facing gallery filled with hundreds of ballons with the artist inviting visitors to interact with the work.
